ABCs of Beautiful Light

Six sessions. Six people. Meets once a month from 1:00-5:00 on Saturday afternoons.

$750 (sold out!)

A basic lighting course for people who love photography and want to be more skilled in the use of light. The course covers natural light, use of fill, artificial continuous light, strobe light (flash) and introduction to mixing strobe and continuous light. Over the course of six months, we will meet once a month for four hours. In the process of learning about light, photographers will gain hands-on practice, as well as learn to analyze light and shadow in images from books and magazines to help deepen awareness of light. Assignments include studies of light patterns, light height, modifiers, ratios and also replication assignments, and more. There will be an assignment for each class due prior to the next session. Photographers are invited to explore their particular goals for photography.

Here's a little video.

Photographers should have knowledge of Photoshop and/or Lightroom. Homework is submitted digitally via Photoshop or Lightroom to be projected during class for commentary. Photographers will need to have access to (and know how to use) a digital camera that has independent shutter speed and aperture controls as well as a hot shoe. Additionally, photographers need to access a studio during the month between classes. This may be through PCNW or other rental studios in the area.
